Could you Recommend books you like on MeditationorMetaphyica

Post by soren008 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:43 pm

I'm reading the greatest book on meditation I've read so far
IT's called Stillness is the Way by, Barry Long

The Solar Plexus, and the centre in the forehead, called the third eye
It's really a very powerful book, in my experience
It's from a Meditation Intensive he used to give, so he gives great exercises, and also talks about something about the trapped emotion that moves inside the body
Something I haven't seen written about as clearly in spritual, the spiritual stuff I've consumed so far

I completely rejected all and recoiled from any techniques that they advertise, now I'm interested in looking at stuff

Do you know of any good books like it ?

I'm looking for the more sensitive and subtle stuff about the body

I just bought a Osho book of 112 Meditations - The Book of Secrets

thank you

It talks about the body in a precise way, a really really great book
It talks about the pain or tension we gather
An extract here :

"We're going to go into the body and release the tension that has crept up from the unhappiness in our stomach. We know that lodged in the stomach there is a ball of unhappiness that has grown in us since childhood. All the tension in the body rises from there.
We have accumulated tension We have accumulated emotion that the body has not dealt with. In the stomach there is a centre, a flame, made to consume the emotion. And there is incoming sexual energy - vital, pure, reproductive energy - coming up from the earth, which deals with and dissolves our emotional self. But because most of life today is lived as emotion, our natural protection is not sufficient; the emotion is not all dissolved so it builds up in us, gradually fills us up. This accumulation of emotion grows into a ball that the body cannot deal with.
The ball of unhappiness is an entity. It is substantial. It is alive. It is always weeping, down there inside of you. All the tears you ever shed are still being wept down there. The unhappiness tries to get more substance. It is always trying to rise in us, rise in our senses, so it can experience the world through us. And it does this by rising first as subtle tension."

I'm not sure if these fit your mandate, but I'd recommend:

Silence of the Heart - Robert Adams.
Mastering the CORE teachings of the Buddha- Daniel Ingram.
The Diamond Sutra - Red Pine.

Yes, that's what I would recommend, wholeheartedly infact, but if you don't like the look of it then you have plenty of other good options available to you. Actually, some of the books you mentioned on your own list are works I would have recommended also, but it seems your life beat me to it.

Seeing this makes me very happy, thank you.

I recommend this book for starters ... Meditation for Everybody, by Louis Proto:

http://www.amazon.com/Meditation-Everyb ... 0140123431

It is simple, inspiring, and comprehensive. Does not just teach you techniques but answers the why as well.

"The Art of Living" by William Hart. Explains Vipassana Meditation and why it is effective.

"The Heart of Buddhist Meditation" by Nyanaponika Thera. A more theoretical book that is a longtime classic (with a forward by the psychologist Erich Fromm)

"Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond A Meditator's Handbook" by Ajahn Brahm
