Roethke In a Dark Time

Post by randomguy » Tue Mar 19, 2013 4:44 pm

For those who like a good poem, a link to the whole poem
The last lines below.
My soul, like some heat-maddened summer fly,
Keeps buzzing at the sill. Which I is I?
A fallen man, I climb out of my fear.
The mind enters itself, and God the mind,
And one is One, free in the tearing wind.
Do the yellow-rose petals
tremble and fall
at the rapid's roar?

Nice, Random guy. Good poetry pulls the flesh off the bone.
Be present, be pleasant.

Beautiful! Thanks for linking the entire poem. I especially like the opening stanza:

In a dark time, the eye begins to see,
I meet my shadow in the deepening shade;
I hear my echo in the echoing wood--
A lord of nature weeping to a tree,
I live between the heron and the wren,
Beasts of the hill and serpents of the den.

Yes, in a dark time, the eye begins to see...& we meet our shadow.
Life itself is the proper binge.
