light hit the leaves and powered the engine
that trapped you here
the reach of the sun interrupted
by a green canopy, with boney fingers reaching down into the earth
to find the water of life

the wind let's you tell your tale
in the summer, you can also wave
you sound full, and you sing of easy, lazy, sun-kissed days
in the fall, you flash a quick, colorful goodbye
and ruslte your complaint of the coming winter against the ground
once the water has left the leaves, made them dry and forlorn

but why complain so?
in the winter you embrace the snow in snappy contrast to your twig brown
less sound, unless you've stretched yourself out toward a wall
and bang your boney twig self at the limit of someones abode

that light banishes the snow in spring
as it drips down to become the water of life
that trapped you here to make shadows
to give the light a place to rest
if only for a moment
Stop talking. Hear every sound as background. Look straight ahead and focus. Take one deep breath. This is you. This is Now.
