Animals as spiritual teachers

Post by unbornawakened » Sat Dec 17, 2011 11:13 pm

I have lived with several Zen Masters — all of them cats.”
Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

I truly believe in the mutual learning experience between so-called animals and humans. The word animal has been abused, I would rather think of them as the products of the spirit of mother earth. And in reaching and touching our planetary home, we absolutely definitely need to reach out to the wonderful creatures that are the product of this planet.

The childlike and playful quality of these wonderful friend we have on this earth - our companions, teachers, and students - are so sweet and loveable that we can only melt in the mutual love and start to feel that magical connection with earth.

I would like to share some videos to kick start this thread,

We can experience peace, love, and joy in the presence of our feathered and furry friends, in a way that is unspeakable. We just bask in the warm glow and peace of holding a dear pet and giving it loving tender care. It is a spiritual experience in its own right. And therefore we need to include these primal souls of the earth as our spiritual teachers, in feeling the tremendous peace and joy of nature on this most beautiful planet

Right on, unbornawakened. It's such a relief to be around animals and nature. I learn more from spending a few minutes with a cat than I do talking to a human for a few hours. People certainly become tiresome to be around.

It's so nice to be around others who give you the space to be.

They are part of nature, so in a way they can also be spiritual. Animals and insects alike are used in many teachings - butterflies, bees, tigers, cats, ducks, etc.

From the diciple's view,everthing/everybody is a spiritual teacher(or teacher in general). From the other side,I doubt even E.T.take himself as a master.Actually there is no teacher but only the teaching.Let me quote J.K."Do you want to hear the teaching? This is the teaching-there is no teacher."
