Who is your favorite spiritual teacher?

This survey should be really interesting and I think helpful as well.

Obviously Eckhart Tolle would be the first choice for most people, so we'll just go ahead and leave him out of this. :)

I know I've left out a lot of teachers, but I am limited to only ten options. So in case your favorite teacher isn't on the list, just go ahead and post his/her name.

Note: you may actually select up to 3 teachers, if you wish.

Leonard Jacobson! Who is remarkably similar to Eckhart Tolle, despite claiming to never have read his books. But Eckhart still takes the cake :).

Thanks for the list! The only one I've even looked at is Adyashanti who Andy references quite often and who appears consistent and in agreement with Tolle. I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next couple of hours! Thanks again for the list.

It is life as impersonal intelligence or the energy of insight that accounts for
learning whether through observation of nature, or perception of conditioned
reactions in oneself or others or through solitude and contemplation of beauty.
The words of other so-called teachers are at best just pointers and more
often are distractions from authentic exploration and first hand discovery.

It appears that some stop along side the path to teach rather than teach as they walk. Interesting.

Favorite teacher? What day is it? Probably the one I am reading at the time.

Not my favourite teacher, but the only teacher...

... the teacher is within...

My intention in creating this thread was to make a useful resource for people interested in exploring new spiritual teachers. So for those who have more comments in the spirit of gdvant and dancer, please refrain from posting them here. Let's keep the discussion on the subject of the spiritual teachers you would like to recommend to others.

OK, Erict,

In that case, my favourite teacher has to be U.G. Krishnamurti.

And his best pointer, for me, is in the video called "This is a dog barking":

Aside from Eckhart, Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hahn have been instrumental in my life. I can't recommend them highly enough. In terms of meditation, Bhante G and Jon Kabat Zin both have written many wonderful books on the subject. Marianne Williamson's writings on TCIM are excellent. Elizabeth Lesser's "The Seeker's Guide" is also by my bedside now.

I hope these suggestions are helpful to someone...

You missed gdvant's point erict - he wrote
authentic exploration and first hand discovery
they are his favourite spiritual teacher - they happen to be mine too!

Second-hand teachings are a very poor substitute for authentic meditative exploration.
(actually, they are no substitute at all - they are closer to being 'spiritual entertainment')

Right now, Adya. His words push my internal exploration and meditation. I like him because he is not comfortable.

Byron Katie's book A Thousand Names For Joy was given to me by a co-worker, who soon became a close friend. Katie's insight changed my view on life, and brought me inner peace. Her teachings laid a foundation of understanding which brought clarity to Eckhart's A New Earth! Eckhart's teachings have transformed my existance. I now accept the events of my life. My favorite spiritual teachers are Byron and Eckhart!

Wow. I'm leaning towards Catherine Ingram now, actually...now that I've seen some of her stuff...
