Being present - doesn't mean ignoring reality

Here you may share how the words Eckhart Tolle have affected your life.

Being present - doesn't mean ignoring reality

I like the writings of Tolle, but one thing I noticed with a lot of people who read these books - they seem to look for an answer in the writing, but really it is just telling what is obvious. The obviousness of it is what resonates with us all.

For me, being present does not mean ignoring reality. If you're stressed about a job you don't like, then perhaps it's time you moved on. There is a reality - and there are legitimate feelings and emotions, and sometimes they are there to tell you to act!

If you're not living true to your conscience, you'll be living in shame and guilt. You can try all you want to change the way you feel through a mental exercise, but the better way is to change the situation! Realize the power that we all have to shape our lives and the world around us. You are not a victim of life unless you live it as though you were. What is it that holds you back? What are you afraid of? Rejection? Hurting others?

There is nothing to lose in this life. One of the quotes that stuck with me from Power of Now was "Death is a stripping away of all that is not you. The secret of life is to "die before you die" — and find that there is no death". The meaning behind this is so powerful because of the truth it speaks. Everyone can have their own interpretation of living in the Now, but mine is to be conscious, objective, and to live with conviction.

Don't let others interpret the meaning of life for you. While there is a lot to learn from others, ultimately you must figure it out for yourself.

Nice one. Accept or Change or Remove yourself, says it all.

Thank you for this timely reminder. We all come at this (and come out of it) quite differently--we need to find our own way beyond the obvious pointers.
