Blessings on Labor Day

We turn our thoughts today, in the USA, to the blessing of work, the gift of labor. As we reflect, may we find through our work, a sense of sacramentality, of the idea that everything that is, is holy.

When we grow a tomato plant in a small container in a city apartment, we participate in creation; when we repair something broken, preserve something old, clean a room. When we care for everything we touch and touch it reverently, we become creators of a new universe. Then we sanctify our work and our work sanctifies us.

Our work impacts everything around it. There is nothing we do that doesn't affect the entire world. We can trust beyond reason that our work will bring good things into the world, even when we can not see the results. Everything we do, everything, has some effect on someone somewhere.

Bless the work of your hands, however humble, with gratitude and love, and rejoice in the gift that your work is, to yourself, and to the world.
Life itself is the proper binge.
