Life is just a bowl of cherries: George Gershwin

Life is just a bowl of cherries
Don't take it serious,
Life's too mysterious
You work,
You save,
You worry so
But you can't take your dough
When you go, go, go

So keep repeating "It's the berries."
The strongest oak must fall
The sweet things in life
To you were just loaned
So how can you lose
What you've never owned?

Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh, aha!
Laugh and love
Live and laugh,
Laugh and love,
Live and laugh at it all!

I experienced Ben Vereen singing/dancing this live on broadway after he had recovered from his car accident. He sang it from such a glowing, alive, deep, still place, that I never forgot it. I think my spiritual search was prodded by this performance. I wanted to know the source of his wisdom, his security, his freedom, his fearlessness.

I think I know, now. Thankyou, George Gershwin. How did you know?

Read a great article about him here with wonderful photos: http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=15862 His triumphs over these tragedies helped him appreciate what he has, and what he still can do. “What has happened in my life has happened in all of our lives, and the blessings that came through for me come through for all of us. We’ve just got to be aware. Join the Triple-A club,” he quips. “Awake, Aware, and Alive. To be able to share that with the public is just amazing.”
