What is Our Purpose?

Noname asks: "What do you feel our purpose is?" "And how do we obtain this?"

Yes, I agree. It has something to do with joy, since joy is what we really are at the core. Joy and love. :)

Inner and Outer Purpose

Post by BillyPLed » Thu Feb 09, 2006 1:10 am

I was just skimming my copy of A New Earth. I know that you have not bought a copy of this yet, Heidi. There is a whole chapter on Purpose. ET writes about the difference between inner purpose and outer purpose. Inner purpose is primary, and outer is secondary. He states that our inner purpose is to awaken. All people have that same inner purpose. Our outer purpose can vary. Inner purpose has to do with being. Outer purpose has to do with doing. Our goal is to get to a point where our outer purpose is in alignment with our inner purpose. Therefore, no matter what we do on the outer level we can "use it" to further our awakening and the awakening of all sentient beings.

I see our purpose to awaken from the dream, from the tangible world that we know to be real to which is our tools to awakening and so very limiting. An outer world driven by the egoic mind which has been in control for a long time. Going within, the Kingdom of Heaven is within. I had heard this since I was a little child, my Mother was ahead of her time. It sounded good, but I did not have a clue as to what it mean't.

Since ET, now it is not just a clue, but a knowing of what this is. For myself It ain't been easy, that's for sure. Being consious of what is going on within. No longer allowing the mind driven thoughts to run amuck. My experience of late is in a way being a parent to these unruly children. The mind, emotions, physical needs and wants. It's not a matter of chastising them, it is loving them, and remaining vigilant and keeping the light shone on them. No more hiding, even if it's a feeling I'm ashamed of or embarassed by. Ego likes this. The Spiritual path is a perfect feeding ground for the Ego. The catch is not to make it our enemy, because it really is to be used as our path to enlightenment.

I've rambled on enough. ET's suggestions on Portals can be amazing and helpful.

Our goal is to get to a point where our outer purpose is in alignment with our inner purpose.
When we are congruent inner/outer then we experience joy in our being/doing. :)

Our purpose is to be porpoiseful in all things we purport to be purpetrating!

I thought the general concensus on this site was that our purpose was to become purposeless - in order to find the greater purpose.

Right now, my purpose is to somehow surivive the mental and emotional wringer that is intensive English teacher training, with some vestige of my sanity and self-esteem still in tact. Behind all that just bopping around in the background is...something about dancing. Dancing through life.

The purpose is in how we dance, and the music we dance to, not what we are dancing for.

Aw Clare, I wanted to say that. I guess I can say it too.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish!"

Thanks for indulging me.

Love,
Claudia

P.S. Our purpose is to awaken, through presence.
