views on positive self talk

Postby songbird » Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:36 am

Hi

What do you think Tolle's views are on positive self talk?

Would he say that is being identified with the ego?

Ive read him saying it is prefereble to negative thinking but he didnt really elaborate.
I know negative self talk is destructive but positive is important to me in order to give myself courage and try and accomplish things.

Thanks

I found this link very beneficial and it may be a merging of positive self talk and Tolle's worldview.

If you feel you need to use positive self talk, then do that, that's fine.

When you no longer feel you need to do that, then don't, and that's fine too.

Looks like you didn't finish your sentence?

Might as well add something I forgot to add in my last post. :)

The problem with trying to be positive, is that everything that isn't perceived as positive needs to be rejected. This rejection will create a reactionary relationship with life, which creates tension, the very thing the positive self talk was attempting to eliminate.

When we realize who we are at the fundamental level, positive affirmation is no longer necessary, as we don't need to be confident, nor have any sense of self esteem.

Rejected or altered into some semi-delusional magical thinking. I agree David. The best positive self talk for me is that which helps me accept the present and shift focus to something more positive or to make a good plan.....based in the reality of the moment.
