Awareness of awareness is self realization ... please explain.

When everything falls away awareness can realize awareness, but as long as there is something for awareness to be aware of this self realization is not possible.

Howdy to you rachMiel.

Aha. Thanks.

The assumption underlying what you wrote seems to be that self = awareness.

Is that your take?

Ultimately, yes.

As in self = awareness = brahman, yes?

The Vedantic notion of Brahman as ultimate substrate/truth just doesn't click for me.

The Buddhist view does, that there IS no ultimate truth.

I see awareness as arising in relation to aware'd objects, not as an inherently existing entity/force.

Yes, also as ultimate self = God or Nibanna.
I would class Buddhist view of Nibbana as a ultimate truth. At least this is what I have been taught. The tradition i practice traces it's lineage back to Buddha but does not affiliate with Buddhism rather as Dhamma. It is however practicing the 8-fold noble path.

What tradition do you practice, if you don't mind sharing?

Insight meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka.

Thanks.

Just read a bit about it. Sounds like a solid practice. I wish you well. :-)

Thanks rachMeil,
This practice sprinkled with some Tolle has been very helpful in looking at the accumulated selves and seeing this as impermanent changing phenomenon, nothing to get attached to.

Kind regards.

A sprinkle of Tolle ... I love it!

Rach -

I am the content of my mind.
I am the awareness of the content of my mind.
I am existence, being.
I am (the mystery).
I am.
Am.

That is a nice logical progression. Especially the final step in which the local identity "I" dissolves. Of course, if that had actually happened to you in experience rather than in concept, you would not have started this thread. You have read and explored this general topic for years, of course. But still you started this thread, in innocence and honesty. The power of the mind/ego is immense and expansive -- it tries to not accept a secondary role, but rather to incorporate Pure Awareness/Brahman into its domain. Kind of like a fish trying to swallow the ocean.

Try a new meditation technique, or portal, Rach. Keep trying until something shifts and the impulse to start this thread falls away.

Hi Andy. :-)

Yes, I've been spieling pretty much the same spiel for quite a while now.

I have OCD. I'm a repeater. I wonder if I'm not repeating in this case also, playing through the same track until just before the end, then skipping back to the beginning ... o'er and o'er again.

There's that old saying, focus on the journey, not on the goal. I seem to have taken that to an extreme. ;-)

We all have our paths. Mine is a bit ... labyrinthine. Not sure I'd have it any other way, even if I could.

Good to hear from you.

All of this, on an individual level, is about suffering. If you are good with where you are, that's fine.
Perhaps you are a maze-walker, and enjoy it. Be well!
