Maybe it is the steroids that my doctor has me on, but I have been feeling very energized and inspired lately. I could not sleep well last night because I was so wired up. I woke up early this morning and could not go back to sleep. As I lay in bed I started playing around with the wording of "The Lord's Prayer."
Besides Eckhart, I have also been greatly influenced by such modern mystics as Andrew Harvey (author of Son of Man), Matthew Fox (author of The Coming of the Cosmic Christ and Original Blessing) and Neil Douglas-Klotz (author of The Hidden Gospel and The Genesis Meditations). I mention these three because they have really helped me to get what I consider to be a "truer" understanding of the essence of Jesus' Gospel.
Neil Douglas-Klotz focuses on the Aramaic language and the insights that come from trying to understand the world from the point of view of middle-eastern spirituality. He has "translated" many of the sayings of Jesus into versions that are closer to the spirit of the Aramaic language and world-view. One of my favorite translations of his is his version of what has traditionally been called "The Lord's Prayer."
The inspiration that I had this morning as I lay in bed was to take this prayer and the insights that I have gotten from Neil Douglas-Klotz and combine it with the truth of Eckhart Tolle's message to create a new version of the prayer. I call this new version "The Presence Prayer." I am going to share this prayer with all of you now along with the more commonly known version from the King James Bible as well as Neil's version. Let me know what you think.
"The Lord's Prayer"
King James Version
"Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
forever and ever,
"The Lord's Prayer"
Neil Douglas-Klotz version
"O Birther, Father-Mother of the Cosmos,
Focus your light within us -- make it useful:
Create your reign of unity now --
Your one desire then acts with ours,
as in all light, so in all forms.
Grant what we need each day in bread and insight.
Loose the cords of mistakes binding us,
as we release the strands we hold
of others' guilt.
Don't let surface things delude us,
But free us from what holds us back.
From you is born all ruling will,
the power and the life to do,
the song that beautifies all,
from age to age it renews.
Truly -- power to these statements --
may they be the ground from which all
my actions grow: Amen."
“The Presence Prayer”
adapted from “The Lord’s Prayer”
by Billy Ledford, inspired by Eckhart Tolle
Our Source, the unmanifested One Life,
Your frequency resonates with ours.
Your reality reigns.
All that is has its origin in you –
Whether in the realm of time or in the reality of timelessness.
Each moment we are provided with all we could need.
We experience the power of forgiveness, mercy and grace
As we freely give them away.
Free us from the lure of form-identity,
And deliver us from the obsession with “me.”
For we experience naked Reality, we know the Power of Now, and all is aflame with the Glory of Presence.
Let it be so – Now and Now and Now, Amen.
Talk about anything Tolle-related here.
