Yes, I agree, a good summing up of the prog by suzanne.

I just hope that the phenominal exposure that ET will now experience, and that will increase as the show goes on, does not invite the less positive attention that 'fame' inevitably attracts.

Its great though that the message is going out to so many

My thoughts are same on this acid talk, as kiki said you can only feel admiration for someone openly admitting that i think that part of motivation to say that was to set the grounds for shall i say destruction of the self image idolatry, i ll dare to say Jesus did something alike with his disciples: sincerity, humbleness, being "self" suficient, teaching by following his own words fully and without hidden agendas ... these are the qualities that arise only from the present moment and no other source.

He didnt allow himself to go into depths of peace so much on this one :), he looks very energetic and enthusiastic, id say hes energy level and impression he gives away is perfect, this is kind of proof for his words in PON about helping the body slow aging process and giving it all the energy it need.
BTW, i m watching the podcast now and i m so emotional and touched by words of Eckhart and Oprah i cant write anything yet about the show. :)

I think this was due to the format. Usually, he simply talks at a pace which has deliberate pauses, immersing himself in presence, and then speaking again. This subtle and simple method of teaching has the effect of drawing listeners into that same quiet space. The format in the class is different; with Oprah openly discussing things with him and drawing him out there isn't the same kind of pace. With her acting as a facilitator between ET and the guests there is a more dynamic flow of ideas, and this makes it a bit harder for listeners (especially those new to Tolle) to drop into presence.

Suzanne,

Nice recap!

If you don’t mind my asking — I too want to capture the video with the quality you mentioned. It sounds like your download was free of stuttering, pixelation, and freeze-frames. If this is true, could you tell me what bandwidth you have and which site you downloaded from, Yahoo, iTunes, etc? I want to create the same environment to get a clean video copy. I assume you captured the file that was mp4 format? Thanks.

Dear garuda,

Here's the link:

http://event.oprah.com/videochannel/ond ... _main.html

Download the ipod video. Then, watch where you save it. Open it with Quicktime. I didn't try Microsoft Media Player, but I'm going to guess that if Quicktime runs it, Media Player will.

Your bandwidth shouldn't matter in terms of quality, just download time. I'd also make sure you have enough unused space on your hard drive to handle a large video file.

Stillness,
Suzanne

I can't disaggree with you: But, since this functions as an introduction to his ideas, I think his demeanor was probably most appropriate for most new viewers.

I do enjoy his DVD's and CD's, where he leaves space around many of the words, and there is almost a hypnotic quality. Let's hope that everyone who goes out to buy the book will sense that in his words, and eventually go out and buy the DVD's. That would be a good statement to make on the Oprah message board.

I'd like to see him market them on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. But that's just me.
Stillness,
Suzanne

Kiki, you touched on this well. The voice of presence between moments of silent pauses, somehow does invite a deeper similar search of its listeners. Albeit, just having ET on a world broadcast by one of the most powerful women on this planet, this itself, is a wonderful gift and perhaps a new beginning for ET and a fulfillment of so many others dreams.

Suzanne,

Thanks for the link. My initial download was choppy. I'll try this site. I hope Windows Media player will play it because I’m having update problems with my Quicktime. (I think coriolis’ gnat may have built a nest in my Quicktime player).

I am really enjoying seeing Eckhart in a whole new role. There are hundreds of DVD's where he is the main speaker at one of his workshops, and the audience is silent. So if anyone wants to experience this silent presence, they can always listen to one of his other videos.

Personally, I don't know much at all about Oprah. And am learning through this show, what a beautiful and dynamic woman she is. So full of enthusiasm, and this program with Eckhart seems to have really lit her fires :D

In many ways Eckhart's message is very, very simple. And he has already mentioned in the first class the basic fundamentals.

You are not the voice in your head.

Pay attention to what is going on all around you in the present moment. Feel you body breathing and your heart beating, and just listen.

This awareness that you are feeling, is who you truly are.

I must admit that one of my resistances to the show are all the ads, and the commercialism. It is a little too hyped up for my liking. And then I remember that the advertising companies are the ones who are funding this whole event, and making it possible for over half a million people to receive it all for free.

Now gratitude is felt again. On with the show :)

Okay, so I finally got the download up and running. I had big trouble getting the video, just the audio was coming through. I had to open it through Mozilla Firefox and then it worked fine - crystal clear.

I note that some here have expressed concern over Oprahs input into the dialog. Now, I have never been a big fan of Oprah, and those comments fit in with my previously held view, but to my (pleasant) surprise, I have to say that I found her input was excellent - at least for the first half hour, which is all I have watched so far. Her discription of the effect the book had on her, the "shift" that she experienced, was a terrific pointer in its own right for someone who is moved by ET's teaching. Her discription, reinforced by Tolle, of seeing a tree for the first time without a label, and the awakening effect it had on her made me want to immediately go outside and commune with nature. I loved her honesty and her own sense of presence came through.

I realize that Tolle doing the pointing in his wonderfully clear expression is the purpose of the classes and hopefully will get priority, but at this early stage there are many of Oprahs' fans who will be watching Oprah for guidance as well; so her part in the course is important in its own right. Her genuine sharing of her own personal experience may help those new to ET's teachings get past their initial concerns and ease into a more open perspective and acceptance. Just think - what if we had Bill O'reilly or Chris Mathews doing the interview?

Anyway, I think she's doing great.

I still think this forum is going to be slammed. When you Google 'Eckhart Tolle', this is one of very few pages that appear. I wonder if anyone at Eckhart Tolle Teachings is aware of us - there may even be a member - maybe it's erict or Webwanderer !!! Just kidding!

Or maybe this will be a passing fad, like TM. After all ET and Being have a big enemy, the individual and collective egos with centuries of inertia and powerful systems in place. When TM was popular in the 70s, there were training centers in every major city. And remember the Hare Krishna people. Now where are they? Oops, there I go speculating about the future...

Eckhart said something in the class which got kind of glossed over: the Skype caller from Colorado was very worried about the future of the human race (and her kids upstairs). Eckhart said essentially, and I paraphrase the content here: "Even if everybody dies, it's OK because Being is unaffected...fundamentally we are all Being and transcend the cycle of life and death. Some other form will emerge somewhere in the Universe which is at least as conscious as humans were." He was gentler, but that was his message. The answer is bold and clear and very consistent with his other teachings, but not particularly reassuring to that mother, despite her prayerful entreaty.

There is not past, no future; everything flows in an eternal present. - James Joyce

They seem to have improved their streaming, so I was able to watch it online this morning, and I recommend it. Even though I have enjoyed, read, seen, listened and discussed Tolle's work now for many years, what Oprah is doing (even though she interrupts too much and doesn't allow those precious moments of silence that Tolle uses so effectively in his presentation) is very exciting as they bring the world together.
So, if you get the chance, select A New Earth View On Demand here, where you'll find the chapter lesson(s):

Go here and click on "Oprah after the show".

Here she discusses with a few members of the audience what they got out of the book ANE. What struck me in Oprah's dialog with them is the degree to which she "gets it". It's about a 10 minute clip - time well spent. She is a real asset to a world shift in consciousness.

Dear WW,
I aggree. He was wise to choose her to expose his ideas in such a careful way. He can control this because she's footing the bill, and it's free. No other producers need to be handled, no network executives. The fewer fingers involved, the better. Oprah has integrity and will listen to him. She'll live up to her end of the bargain. He can trust her.

Eckhart might possibly be on PBS someday, but only if they don't make him do those ghastly promotions. He would lose control of the meaning and the purpose.
