Nothing real is really happening

Post by dijmart » Sat Dec 10, 2016 7:29 pm

When there's no clinging or aversion to an experience and an allowing of what comes and letting go of what goes, there's an experience of nothing "real" really happening. As it doesn't leave a residue within the psyche.

It's more like a picture show/movie, complete with all sense projections. Sometimes it's a sitcom, tear jerker, drama, action, terror, Sci fi, etc... one leads into the other, "seemingly" as a constant, cohesive experience. However, if you look closely, while experience is happening, you can see/feel when one movie ends and the other starts. When you go to the movie theater or watch a show on tv, when the movie/show is over (some are long and drawn out, others very short) don't you just get on with it? You don't say, I need to rehash that movie over and over in my mind, talk about it endlessly or run back into the theater to watch it 10 more times. That's how people cling to the movie of life.

Sometimes a feeling or thought may linger for awhile, regarding what was seen/heard/experienced, then it's let go of.. This is how you stop clinging to what comes and goes within the "apparent" reality.

The only "real" never changing, constant in your life, is your ordinary, whole, complete, attributeless, impersonal, nondual, regular awareness. Everything else comes and goes within that, within "you", awareness. Once that's seen/apprehened, it's like there's nothing "real/really" happening.

For example, a bomb was dropped yesterday, that a family member, that lives out of state, has been arrested/charged with a serious felony. If the charges stand and they probably will, this person will go to prison. Their young life ruined...

The mind grabbed and clung to this information for the past 24 hours, mulling it over and over with all the different possibilities. Attention had shifted to the mind chatter, the pain of the situation almost to the point of suffering.

Finally,... acceptance... as there's nothing that can be done, no decisions to make, no actions that can be done, nothing will change the past....

Then, a shift back to witnessing, to I AM, to myself.... and the chatter and worry ended...the headache (literally) continues.

The "story" will continue ...there will be more chapters to this story and information gathered, but the shock is over. The mind grabbing shock that gets someone off balance...has been let go of and with the letting go, no clinging, letting things be as they are...this, allows the shift of attention to go from focused on mind, to back to Self. That's where peace lies...

Funny what life dished out within the 11 days since I posted this thread!

It sounds like you are identifying more and more with Self and less and less with self. That's a pretty awesome place to be, congratulations!

Sounds really good, dijmart. I like your twist on the movie analogy, that we let the movie go soon after we leave the theater. I feel somewhat the same way about the current political state in the US as you do about your cousin, do what you can and let the rest go. Not much I can do about the situation.

Thank you both for the nice comments.

Some initial clinging or aversion to situations, thoughts, emotion is natural ..it's whether you get stuck in it. Stuck=suffering!

..I mean, pain is painful, but it doesnt have to last. Once the sticky thoughts are released and a refusal to allow them to make camp again in the mind, then youre free of that situation, thought, emotion. Sure it may swirl around in the mind, from time to time, just don't let it "land" and definately don't invite it for tea and cookies!

Onceler- Yeah, no sense in worrying about politics. You never know he might suprising you, in a good way?....or not, but yes, nothing you can do about it...so letting it go is the healthy thing to do.

I don't know if it's a product of age or spiritual changes, but I forget what I'm worried about half the time! Maybe a little of both......

What ended up happening with the family member?

She got off with a slap on the wrist. Volunteer time and probation. I thought for sure she was toast. She got lucky.

The reason I asked is because it seems to me that more often than not, the way we perceive a given situation, what we anticipate, what we think about it, is quite wrong, but we're rarely aware and virtually never examine our thoughts closely in retrospect, to realize how often and just how wrong we are. And yet, we react emotionally to these thoughts and perceptions, rather than reality (whatever that might actually be).

Hmm, well, she admitted to having a sexual affair with her foster son. He's 17, but still, a child in the eyes of the law. So, I wasnt perceiving it any way, but factually.

I was at work and forgot to add... that her original charge was first degree rape, a felony. That didn't stick, but it could have, took months to get it reduced. I was referring to the original charges when I posted here about it.
