What are the Bots on here doing?

I have noticed that there are usually two Bots on here almost always, like a Bing Bot and a Google Bot and sometimes others. I am unfamiliar with Bots and what they are and what they are doing, but my curiosity is growing. Anybody have any clue what they are doing and why they are on here as registered members?

Bing bot is the same, except for Bing search engine.
