Thich vs. Tolle

Post by cam23 » Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:51 am

Is anyone in here familiar with the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh? He was the first spiritual teacher I ever REALLY got into after reading the book “The Art Of Power” which is extremely similar to “The Power Of Now.” Thich emphasizes on mindfulness (being present) and how it leads to peace and insight which is basically the same teaching as Tolle. Both of them write very powerful stuff that changes the way you look at things. Has anyone in here read anything by Thich and if so, do you practice Thich’s mindfulness teachings along with Tolle’s?

The teachings are almost exactly the same. (At least to me it is) I just want to know if anyone in here follows both spiritual teachers and what they have gotten out of it.

I like to read both teachers, and I have to say there are lots of similarities but sometimes I feel as though I have to choose one of them. For example, Thich Nhat Hanh speaks a lot about concentration whereas Tolle says that presence is effortless. I am not sure whether these differences are because of the language barrier for Thich Nhat Hanh and this isn't really what he means? But anyway the things he says are often beautiful, and I ike the emphasis he has on compassion and kindness towards other beings :)
