Hello from California

Post by EvB » Tue Jul 17, 2007 8:44 am

Hello,

My name is Evan. I live in Santa Cruz, California and am originally form the New York City area. I've been checking out this discussion forum for a few days and I wanted to say hello.

I read The Power of Now in the winter of 2000 and saw Echart speak in NYC that same year. I had not been on a spiritual path at the time, but I had been reading books by Wayne Dyer, Ken Burns and Albert Ellis. All of those authors' books were somewhat helpful, but Eckhart's book was exactly what I needed to read. The Power of Now altered the course of my life because it pinpointed what was missing from my life; The present moment.

During the past few years, I've been living on the central coast of California and have been studying with a spiritual teacher named Leonard Jacobson, who teaches along the same lines as ET.

It's good to be here. I'm looking forward to meeting you,

Evan

Welcome Evan, good to have you with us. Santa Cruz huh? I wrecked my motorcycle in Santa Cruz back in 1982. At least I'm here to tell the tale. Enjoy the forum.

Huh! That seems such a long time back. Where was I in 2000 ? :)
WWW was just beginning to explode and the administrator of this site must have been in a school grade then.
I often kick myself as to why I met ET so late (2005).
You're lucky.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone. I do feel lucky to have to have gotten to see Eckhart at a pretty early time in his journey as a teacher. What I remember from that experience is that I spent the full day in the conference center of the Sheraton Hotel on W57th street in NYC. There were less than 200 people in attendance and I got there early enough to get a front row seat. Eckhart was escorted in and out by two men in suits. Ram Dass was sitting in the audience. He had recently recovered from having a stroke. I believe this was right after Oprah mentioned TPON on her show. Maybe that explains why there were nearly 200 people there. ET was a very sweet and soft presence and I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with him.

Seeing Eckhart "early on" is relative, I guess. I know someone who was with him back when he was speaking to a handful of people and was answering questions and guiding students into presence on an individual basis. I believe he was giving private sessions back then, as well. I know a couple of people who knew Byron Katie at this stage in her career. It would have been immensely valuable to have seen these teachers on a regular basis. That is why I am very grateful to have been working with Leonard for the past few years, because the one thing I really needed at that time and could not get from Eckhart was personal attention.

The truth is, that I picked up Eckhart's book by chance before I had any idea of who he was. I read his book very slowly and thoroughly. I took each and every sentence in with great care because I knew what I was reading had value beyond anything I had ever read before. It took me a month to completely go through it. Then I spent a couple of years listening over and over again to his tapes and his cds, when his book and publications like, "Even the Sun Will Die," were released. I feel really lucky to have found this teaching because nothing is more important.

Thanks again for making me feel welcome. I'm very happy to be here.
Evan
